What is Waldo?

The short version

Waldo is a free mobile app that matches hospitality job seekers with restaurants, bars, cafés, bakeries and hotels in Greater Montréal. Job seekers browse real openings and swipe on the ones they want. Venues browse candidates and swipe back. When both sides swipe yes, a chat opens and they can talk directly.

The point of the mutual-match model is that nobody wastes time. Seekers are not sending applications into a void, and venues are not sorting through a pile of résumés from people who are not actually interested in that specific job.

Who it is for

Two sides, both in hospitality, both in Montréal.

• Job seekers — servers, bartenders, baristas, line cooks, dishwashers, hosts, bussers, bakers, hotel staff and every other hospitality role, from first job to head chef.
• Venues — independent restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafés, bakeries and hotels hiring for their own floor and kitchen.

How it works

• Create a profile once — your experience, availability and the roles and neighbourhoods you want.
• Swipe through real openings that match what you asked for.
• When a venue swipes back, the match opens a direct chat.
• Arrange a trial shift or interview in the conversation.

What it costs

Waldo is free to download and free to use on both sides. There is no charge for job seekers to apply and no posting fee for venues. The app is available on iOS and Android.

Where it operates

Waldo operates in Greater Montréal, Québec, covering the island and surrounding areas including Laval, the South Shore, the North Shore and the West Island. The app and support are available in both French and English.

Why it exists

Hospitality hiring does not work like office hiring. Roles need to be filled in days rather than months, résumés tell you very little about whether someone will be good on a Saturday night, and the candidates who are actually available are not sitting on generalist job boards.

Waldo is built around how the industry already hires — quickly, locally, and through direct conversation — rather than forcing it through a process designed for a different kind of job.
